Study Note: Soil and Human Beings

Study Note: Soil and Human Beings (ดินกับมนุษย์)

 Key Points (ประเด็นสำคัญ)

Soil is very important for people. We use it for farming, building, art, and even for landfills. 🏡

Soil pollution happens when harmful things are added to the soil, making it dirty and unsafe.

Pollution is caused by throwing trash carelessly, using too many chemicals in farming, and mining. 🏭

Polluted soil harms plants, animals, and people. ☠️

We can help prevent soil pollution by using the 3R's (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), throwing garbage away correctly, and using compost. ❤️

1.0 How We Use Soil (เราใช้ประโยชน์จากดินอย่างไร)

Soil is super important for our daily lives! Here are the main ways we use it:

1.    Agriculture (เกษตรกรรม) 🌱

We use soil to grow plants, vegetables, and crops for our food.

We plant trees in the soil to get wood for making furniture and paper.

2.    Building (การก่อสร้าง) 🏗️

People build houses and other buildings on soil.

Soil can be used to make building materials like bricks and concrete.

3.    Arts and Crafts (ศิลปะและงานฝีมือ) 🎨

We can use soil (like clay) to make pottery such as pots and vases.

It can also be used to make beautiful sculptures.

4.    Landfills (สถานที่ฝังกลบขยะ) 🗑️

Landfills are areas where we put our garbage. Soil is used to cover and bury the waste.

2.0 What is Soil Pollution? (มลพิษทางดินคืออะไร)

Soil pollution is the addition of harmful materials (สารอันตราย) to the soil. This happens when people introduce things that cannot be broken down naturally, making the soil dirty and unhealthy.

2.1 Causes of Soil Pollution (สาเหตุของมลพิษทางดิน)

Careless Disposal of Waste: Throwing garbage, plastic, and toxic materials anywhere instead of in a proper bin or landfill.

Agriculture: Using too many chemical fertilisers (ปุ๋ยเคมี) or insecticides (ยาฆ่าแมลง) on farms. These chemicals can stay in the soil and pollute it.

Mining: Mining activities can produce large amounts of harmful waste. If this waste isn't managed correctly, it can pollute the soil and nearby rivers.

3.0 Effects of Soil Pollution (ผลกระทบของมลพิษทางดิน)

Polluted soil is a big problem because it affects everyone and everything! 😟

Table 1: How Soil Pollution Affects Living Things

Who/What is Affected

The Effect (ผลกระทบ)

Plants 🌿

The soil becomes less fertile, so plants cannot grow well. If plants grow in polluted soil, they absorb the harmful materials and can die.

Animals 🐷

Animals that live on the land can get sick or die. They might eat polluted plants or lose their home (habitat).

Humans 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

People can get sick with diseases like cancer or skin problems if they eat food grown in polluted soil. Landfills can also create bad smells and attract pests like rats and flies that carry diseases.

Note. This table summarizes the effects of soil pollution as described in the provided textbook pages.

4.0 How to Prevent Soil Pollution (วิธีป้องกันมลพิษทางดิน)

We can all be heroes and help protect our soil! Here’s how: 👍

1.    Put Garbage in Correct Places: Always throw your rubbish in a bin. Never throw it on the ground.

2.    Follow the 3 R's:

     Reduce (ลดการใช้): Use less stuff.

Reuse (ใช้ซ้ำ): Use things over and over again.

Recycle (รีไซเคิล): Turn old things like paper and plastic into new things.

3.    Pick Up Rubbish: If you see litter on the ground, pick it up and put it in a bin to help keep our environment clean.

4.    Use Compost (ใช้ปุ๋ยหมัก): Compost is a natural fertiliser made from decaying plants. It’s a great, nutrient-rich alternative to chemical fertilisers and helps keep soil healthy!
